Liam Began his training in Martial Arts in 1980.For five years he practise Wado Ryu Karate, until after reading a article in a Martial Arts magazine, he invited a Silat Instructor Jak Othman of Guyong Harimau over to Ireland. This was a life changing experience “I personally learnt more about real combat in that weekend, than I did in the previous five Years.” Over the following years Liam learnt and taught various aspects of Pencak Silat and Kali. His training included bringing to Ireland top Instructors such as Jak Othman, Glenn Lobo, Bob Breen, Rick Young, Terry Barnett, John Harvey, Pat O' Malley, Krishna Godhania, and Richard De Bordes.

In 1995 Liam Successfully brought the European Eskrima Championships to Irish Soil for the first time. In this event not only did Liam earn a European Bronze Medal, but he also coached 3 students to win Gold medals and another to a Silver medal. This was the last time Liam had anything to do with sporting aspects of the art. Instead he decided to concentrate on developing Traditional Combat Indonesian Silat in Ireland.

On the 7th Nov 1997 Guru Besar Richard de Bordes awarded Liam the title of "Irish Representative of the International College of Pencak Silat". In 1998 another event would change Liams life, he hosted a Seminar in Ireland for LA based Pencak Silat Pendekar William Sanders of Pukulan Cimande Pusaka. This was a major turning point in Liams development in finding the hidden knowledge (secrets).

Since then Liam has made it his personal quest in learning, developing and spreading the knowledge of Pendekar Sanders and Pukulan Cimande Pusaka throughout his native Irish land. Pendekar Sanders has appointed Liam as his European Director and Chief European Instructor, which now have bases in Ireland ( North and South), UK, France, Holland, and Germany. On the 26th January 2003 Liam was awarded the title Guru Besar Muda ( New Master) by Pendekar Sanders. An honour which Liam holds very dearly, becoming the first Irish Person ever to receive this honour. Liam has also ,over the past years, taught various students to the level of Guru.
